TL;DR: A bonafide certificate confirms that a student is enrolled in your school, in which class and academic year, and why the certificate is issued. Fill in the form above, check the wording, then click Print or save as PDF. The principal signs it and adds the school seal. Nothing you type leaves your browser.

The standard wording

This is to certify that [student name], son/daughter of [parent name], is a bonafide student of this school, studying in class [class] during the academic year [year]. This certificate is issued on request for [purpose].

Some offices also want the date of birth "as per school records" and the admission number. Add them when the purpose needs them, such as a passport or scholarship application.

How to use the generator

  1. Type the school's name and address, or print on your letterhead and leave them blank.
  2. Give the certificate the next number in your series (for example BC/24).
  3. Copy the student's name and date of birth exactly as in the admission register.
  4. Pick the purpose, or type your own.
  5. Click Print or save as PDF, then have the principal sign it and add the seal.

Good habits

  • One running series. Number every certificate and never reuse a number.
  • Match the register. Spelling of names and the date of birth must match your admission register and earlier certificates.
  • Write the purpose. A certificate "for a bank account" should not be reused for a passport.
  • Keep a copy. Save every PDF in a folder by academic year, or keep a register of certificates issued.

Certificates in EduTechMonitor

In EduTechMonitor, the school management software made by Sajre Edutech in Dharwad, the office prints transfer, bonafide and study certificates and student ID cards from the student's record, so names, classes and dates are not retyped. See school admission software and student records.

Frequently asked questions

What is a bonafide certificate for a school student?

It is a letter from the school confirming that the student is currently enrolled, in which class and for which academic year. Parents usually need it for bank accounts, scholarships, passports or travel concessions.

What should a bonafide certificate contain?

The school's name and address, a certificate number, the date of issue, the student's name and parent's name, the class and academic year, the purpose it is issued for, and the principal's signature with the school seal. The admission number and date of birth are useful additions.

Who signs a school bonafide certificate?

The principal or head of the institution signs it, and the school seal is added. Print it on the school letterhead if you have one.

Is this bonafide certificate generator free?

Yes. It is free, needs no login and works in your browser. Nothing you type is saved or sent to us.

Should we keep a record of bonafide certificates issued?

Yes. Give each certificate a number from one running series and keep a register or a PDF copy of every certificate, so you can confirm it later if a bank or office asks.
